Chesil Beach, Dorset

Chesil, from the hill at Abbotsbury, Portland in the distance.

Chesil Beach is a huge shingle bank that runs for eighteen miles from Portland in the East, to West Bay in the West. One of the premier fishing spots in Britain that can be fished at all states of the tide.

Fishing spots are, from east to west, Chesil Cove, Masonic Car Park, the Oil Tanks, Ferry Bridge, Abbotsbury, West Bexington, Cogden,
Burton Bradstock, Freshwater and West Bay.
Chesil Beach is very dangerous when there is a southerly or southwesterly blow and a big sea running.
For real-time wave information see
 http://www.channelcoast.org/data_management/real_time_data/charts/
Anything over 1.5m wave height on the green line will be too much for novices, anything over 2m can be dangerous even for experienced anglers.

Kieth, I met you last week at Mumbles Pier. Thought I'd contact you about Chesil Beach. My club will be coming to chesil from South Wales on 16/9/07. Any advice would be appreciated. Areas to avoid (competitions etc), areas to try. We'll be there at about 8:30 to 9:00am so if you could look at the tide and pass on some advice I'd be very grateful.

Just heading off to camp on the beach and try for a few mackerel using feathers - will report back tomorrow with the results. Wish me luck!

Hello
I've just lost my watch, a lady's citizen silver Eco, on Cogden beach, or on the gravel track down, before 9 am this morning.

If anyone notices it, finds it, or hears of it would you please ring me on 01305 871267

Thank you
